When converting CRAW (compressed RAW) files, note that Canon's lossy compression has already introduced minor quantization at capture time — the BMP faithfully preserves this already-compressed data without further degradation. For full uncompressed RAW mode files, the BMP output is a mathematically faithful representation of the processed sensor data.
