حول تحويل AIFF إلى AMR
AIFF stores studio-quality uncompressed PCM audio, while AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) is a narrowband speech codec running at 4.75-12.2 kbps. This conversion represents one of the most extreme compression ratios in audio: from 1,411 kbps (CD-quality AIFF) down to 12.2 kbps AMR-NB, a 115:1 ratio. The output is designed exclusively for telephony — voicemail, IVR systems, and cellular voice transmission.
لماذا تحوّل AIFF إلى AMR؟
Telecom infrastructure worldwide runs on AMR. When studio-recorded voice prompts (IVR menus, hold music announcements, automated greetings) need to be loaded into a telephone switch, PBX, or voicemail platform, they must be in AMR format. The extreme compression makes AMR ideal for transmission over 2G/3G cellular links where bandwidth is measured in kilobits.
حالات الاستخدام الشائعة
Encoding professional voice-over recordings for telephone IVR systems
Preparing studio-quality announcements for voicemail greeting systems
Creating ultra-compact audio for SMS/MMS applications
Converting AIFF narration for embedding in cellular network infrastructure
Building audio content for embedded systems with AMR-only decoders
كيف يعمل
FFmpeg decodes AIFF PCM, resamples from 44.1/48 kHz stereo to 8 kHz mono (AMR-NB) or 16 kHz mono (AMR-WB), and encodes with libopencore-amrnb/libopencore-amrwb. AMR-NB uses ACELP (Algebraic Code-Excited Linear Prediction) optimized for speech. The codec adapts its bitrate (4.75-12.2 kbps for NB, 6.6-23.85 kbps for WB) based on speech characteristics and channel conditions.
الجودة والأداء
AMR-NB captures only 300-3400 Hz — telephone quality. All musical content, high-frequency detail, and stereo imaging are lost. Speech remains clear and intelligible, which is the codec's sole purpose. AMR-WB extends to 50-7000 Hz, producing noticeably more natural-sounding voice. Never use AMR for music.

نصائح للحصول على أفضل النتائج
1Apply a bandpass filter (300-3400 Hz for NB, 50-7000 Hz for WB) to the AIFF before conversion to preview what the output will sound like
2Use AMR-WB at 23.85 kbps for the best possible speech quality within the AMR family
3Normalize the AIFF audio to -3 dBFS before conversion — AMR handles consistent input levels better than dynamic content
4Record voice prompts in mono from the start if you know the destination is AMR — this gives you more control over the downmix
AIFF to AMR is the path from studio to telephone. The quality reduction is severe but purposeful — AMR delivers intelligible speech at file sizes suitable for cellular transmission.
الأسئلة الشائعة
Roughly 100x smaller. One minute of AIFF is ~10 MB; one minute of AMR-NB at 12.2 kbps is ~90 KB.
Technically it encodes any audio, but music sounds extremely degraded. AMR was designed exclusively for speech coding.
AMR-NB samples at 8 kHz (telephone quality). AMR-WB samples at 16 kHz (HD Voice quality). AMR-WB sounds significantly better for all speech content.
Yes. AMR-WB (branded as HD Voice) is the standard voice codec for VoLTE calls on 4G/5G networks worldwide.
No. All bit depth and sample rate information is discarded. AMR uses its own internal representation optimized for speech at 8 or 16 kHz.
