How It Works
FFmpeg reads the CAF container, decodes the audio to PCM, and encodes using libvorbis into an OGG container. Vorbis quality levels -1 to 10 control the VBR encoding. From lossless CAF sources, only one lossy step occurs. From AAC-in-CAF, transcoding adds generation loss.
