The conversion chain drops from broadcast quality (256 kbps, 48 kHz, stereo) to telephony quality (12.2 kbps, 8 kHz, mono) — a 20x bitrate reduction with corresponding bandwidth limitation.
Extreme quality loss. Broadcast MP2 provides full-bandwidth stereo audio. AMR-NB provides 4 kHz bandwidth mono speech. Music, jingles, and complex audio from broadcasts are destroyed. Only speech remains intelligible. For any content beyond pure speech, use AAC or MP3 instead of AMR.
