EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a vector and raster hybrid used in print production, while PSD (Photoshop Document) is Adobe's native layered raster editing format. Transparency outside the EPS artwork is preserved in the PSD's alpha channel. ImageMagick handles the final PSD encoding with proper Photoshop-compatible layer structure.
The rasterized output quality depends on the DPI setting. At 300 DPI, vector curves and text are rendered with excellent smoothness. The PSD stores the rasterized data without additional compression, so no quality is lost in the PSD format itself. The only quality consideration is the one-time rasterization from vector to pixel -- once rasterized, the image cannot be scaled up without quality loss.
