Theora is significantly less efficient than H.264 — expect files 30-60% larger at equivalent visual quality.
Theora's compression efficiency is roughly comparable to MPEG-2, so conversion from MPG at the same bitrate produces similar visual quality. This makes MPG-to-OGV a relatively even trade in quality, unlike converting from H.264 where Theora would show a clear disadvantage. For DVD-quality sources, Theora at 3-5 Mbps produces acceptable results.
