FFmpeg extracts the audio track from the MOV container, decodes AAC/ALAC to PCM, downmixes to mono, resamples to 8 kHz, and encodes to AMR-NB using the libopencore-amrnb encoder. The output uses the standard AMR file format with the #!AMR\n magic header. The encoder operates at one of eight discrete bitrates from 4.75 to 12.2 kbps, selectable per frame based on voice activity detection.

AMR is a speech codec — it sounds acceptable for voice but poor for music. The 8 kHz sample rate limits frequency response to 300-3400 Hz (telephone bandwidth). Stereo information from the MOV is discarded. The result is comparable to a phone call in sound quality. For better narrowband quality, AMR-WB (16 kHz) can be requested if supported.
