OpusからFLVへの変換について
FLV (Flash Video) was Adobe's multimedia container that powered online video for over a decade, from YouTube's launch in 2005 through the mid-2010s. While Flash Player has been officially discontinued since 2020, FLV files remain common in legacy media archives, older streaming server configurations, and certain Chinese video platforms that still use FLV for live streaming infrastructure.
Converting Opus audio to FLV wraps the audio in an FLV container with MP3 encoding, since FLV supports only MP3, AAC, Speex, and ADPCM audio codecs — not Opus. This conversion is relevant for maintaining compatibility with legacy Flash-based media servers (particularly Red5, Wowza, and older Adobe Media Server deployments) and for contributing to video archives that standardized on FLV.
OpusをFLVに変換する理由
Legacy streaming infrastructure based on RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) still uses FLV as its transport container. Live streaming servers running Red5, Wowza Streaming Engine, or Ant Media Server often ingest FLV-packaged audio. If you need to feed Opus audio into such a pipeline, converting to FLV with MP3 or AAC audio is necessary.
Additionally, large media archives from the Flash era contain millions of FLV files. Organizations maintaining these archives may need to add new audio content in FLV format for consistency. Chinese platforms like Bilibili historically used FLV for their streaming infrastructure, and some internal tools may still require FLV input.
主な活用例
- Feed audio into RTMP-based live streaming servers that require FLV packaging
- Add content to legacy media archives standardized on FLV format
- Supply audio to Wowza, Red5, or other streaming servers using FLV transport
- Maintain format consistency in Flash-era video libraries
- Create audio files for platforms or tools still using FLV infrastructure
仕組み
FFmpeg decodes the Opus stream and re-encodes it as MP3 (libmp3lame) at 128-192 kbps with 44.1 kHz sample rate inside an FLV (Flash Video) container. FLV does not support Opus natively. AAC can also be used as the audio codec within FLV for better quality at the same bitrate. The FLV container uses a simple tag-based structure with 11-byte headers per audio/video packet.
品質とパフォーマンス
With MP3 at 192 kbps, the audio quality is very good and indistinguishable from the Opus source for most listeners. At 128 kbps MP3, there may be subtle artifacts in complex musical passages. AAC at 128 kbps inside FLV provides better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate.

最良の結果を得るためのヒント
- 1Use AAC audio inside FLV for better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate
- 2FLV is only necessary for legacy streaming servers — use MP4 or WebM for modern workflows
- 3RTMP streaming servers can often be updated to accept MP4 fragments (fMP4) as a modern alternative
- 4VLC and PotPlayer can play FLV files if you need local playback for testing
- 5Batch convert only the files your legacy system actually needs — do not convert entire libraries to FLV

Opus to FLV is a legacy conversion for RTMP streaming infrastructure and Flash-era media archives. While FLV is technically obsolete for new projects, the format remains in active use within streaming server ecosystems and large media archives.
