About DRF to ODD Conversion
DRF is a Kodak RAW variant produced by certain Kodak consumer and prosumer digital cameras, storing unprocessed sensor data in a proprietary format. ODD (OpenDocument Drawing) is LibreOffice Draw's vector drawing format for annotated mixed-media documents.
Converting DRF to ODD decodes the Kodak sensor data and embeds the processed photograph into an editable Draw document. This conversion is particularly useful for preserving and annotating family photo archives from Kodak digital cameras that may become increasingly difficult to access as software support for the DRF format declines.
Why Convert DRF to ODD?
Kodak's consumer digital cameras from the 2000s were enormously popular for family photography. Many families have DRF archives from Kodak EasyShare cameras that they cannot easily view on modern devices. Converting to ODD preserves these personal photographs in an open-standard format while enabling annotation — adding names, dates, and event descriptions.
LibreOffice is freely available on Windows, macOS, and Linux, ensuring these family photo documents remain viewable on any computer without specialized Kodak software.
Common Use Cases
- Preserve family photograph archives from Kodak consumer cameras in an open-standard format
- Create annotated family photo albums with names and dates using Draw's text tools
- Build documented photo records from Kodak EasyShare camera captures
- Prepare annotated image collections from DRF archives for family history projects
How It Works
The conversion decodes Kodak's DRF container, extracts the sensor data, performs demosaicing and color correction using Kodak's embedded white balance and color matrix, and embeds the resulting RGB image into an ODD XML package. Kodak consumer cameras typically captured 4-14 megapixel images.
Quality & Performance
The demosaiced image preserves Kodak's consumer camera color rendering, which was designed for pleasing reproduction of everyday subjects. The ODD container adds no compression to the embedded image data.
