About Image to Text
Optical character recognition (OCR) extracts readable, editable text from images of documents, signs, screenshots, and handwritten notes. Our OCR engine uses advanced machine learning to recognize characters with high accuracy across more than 100 languages and writing systems.
The recognition process analyzes your image to identify text regions, then applies language-specific models to interpret individual characters. The output is plain text that you can copy, edit, search, or use in other documents. For images with mixed content, our engine distinguishes between text and graphics automatically.
Office workers digitize paper documents by photographing and extracting text. Students convert lecture slide photos into searchable notes. Researchers extract quotes from book and journal photos for citations. Business travelers translate foreign signs and menus by capturing and extracting text. Data entry teams convert printed forms into digital data.
Our OCR handles various text conditions including skewed pages, low contrast, unusual fonts, and mixed printed and handwritten content. Language selection improves accuracy for non-English text. For multi-language documents, automatic language detection can identify and properly recognize different language sections.
Common Use Cases
- •Digitize printed documents and forms
- •Convert screenshot text for editing
- •Extract text from photos for search
- •Transcribe handwritten notes
- •Convert book and article photos to text
How It Works
Our OCR uses Tesseract 5 with LSTM neural network recognition for high accuracy. Image preprocessing includes deskewing, binarization, and noise reduction. Language packs support 100+ languages including right-to-left scripts and CJK characters.
