WMA at roughly 70-80% of the MP2 bitrate achieves comparable quality. A 192 kbps MP2 track matches WMA at 128-160 kbps.

Microsoft has largely stopped active development of new WMA codec versions. The format is stable but not receiving improvements. For new projects, use AAC.
