Split PDF — Free Online Tool
Extract pages by range or split into individual files.
About Split PDF
Splitting a PDF is the inverse of merging, and equally common in real-world document workflows. A scanned contract bundle often contains five distinct documents that were stuffed through a single scanner pass. A multi-month statement archive needs to be broken into a file per month before upload to accounting software. A research paper compilation needs each paper extracted before circulation. Our split tool offers four modes: extract a single range like pages 5-12, extract multiple ranges in one pass (5-12, 15, 20-25), split at fixed intervals (every 10 pages), or explode the file into one-PDF-per-page for maximum flexibility. The visual page picker shows thumbnails of every page, so you can confirm exactly what you are pulling out before you commit. The underlying pdf-lib pipeline does page-level extraction without re-encoding, which means embedded fonts and images survive unchanged and any extracted bookmark sub-trees come along with their target pages. Form fields contained entirely within an extracted range remain fillable. Compared to splitting in desktop Acrobat — which forces you to set up Preflight profiles — the workflow here takes under thirty seconds for most documents and produces a zip of all output files when you ask for multiple extractions at once.

Frequently asked questions
Can I extract non-consecutive pages?
Yes. Enter a list like 1, 3, 5-10 and you get the union of those page numbers. Use the thumbnail picker to shift-click ranges.
Do bookmarks survive the split?
Bookmarks whose targets land inside an extracted range are kept and re-linked. Bookmarks pointing outside the range are dropped (they would 404 inside the new file).
Will form fields work after a split?
Fields entirely within the extracted pages remain fillable. Fields that reference deleted pages (rare) are pruned.
What about hyperlinks inside the PDF?
Internal links to extracted pages are rewritten to the new page numbers. External links (http/https) are preserved verbatim.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Unlock it first using our Unlock PDF tool. Once decrypted, the split runs identically.
